The Christmas Tree and the Original Sin

Sheesh, Hallowe'en isn't over yet, and we're being nagged about yuletide! Yeshua_is_king@yahoo.com is a regular contributor to newsgroups such as alt.conspiracy, and seems to be a Jehovah's Witness of some sort. His contributions are rather interesting, his latest drawing connections between the Garden of Eden, willies, bodily fluids, chakras and Christmas trees.

Coming of age

A pint of decent beerThe Prattle's official birthday is Hallowe'en. It isn't the day the first paper edition came out—I don't remember that—but it is the date it bore—Samhuinn 1988. Which makes it 18 today. Maybe I should take it to the pub or something, now that it's old enough to drink beer?

More invisible terrorists

United States: It seems that the phenomenon of not reporting certain terrorists is not limited to the UK. Over in the US, Jennifer L. Pozner, executive director of Women In Media and News has drawn our attention to an appalling attempted suicide bombing which took place in Iowa on the 5th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. A man drove a car into a building with the intention of causing an explosion which would kill himself, and destroy the building. Like the September 11th terrorists, he was taking part in a holy war, but David McMenemy is a white Christian fundamentalist, so only one news source bothered to report the incident.

He is also a particularly stupid Christian terrorist—he attacked the Edgerton Women's Health Center because he thought abortions were done there. They're not. The centre specialises in providing smear tests, immunisation and other ob-gyn services for low income families. The cost of the damage was $170,000.

Update: there is more coverage and analysis of this issue over at Wisse Words and Making Light.

That time of year again

A quick round-up of seasonal news:

As is usual, the Prattle Towers resident black cat has no fears whatsoever, and plans to spend the entire day and night getting in her regular beauty sleep. She's more bothered by fireworks than witches, the latter being more likely to stop and stroke her.

One final piece of sheer religious bigotry that isn't strictly hallowe'en based, but fits in nicely with all the silliness above: Spring Hill residents scratch heads over headless animalsSt. Petersburg Times:

SPRING HILL - The 666 phone prefix is enough proof for some. For others, it's the nightclub Saints and Sinners, or the scorching sun that can turn summer into a living hell.

But for some, there's another sign of Spring Hill's proximity to the Land of Lucifer: a rash of decapitated animals.

I'm sure there's a coven of witches or devil worshipers around here, said Sandi Bosset, 61, who has been finding headless hens and roosters on her front lawn. These are obvious rites of witchcraft and Satanism.

Over the past few weeks, chickens, quail and goats have been found in trash bins and on the side of the road.

Could this be the work of Santeros? Or Satanists? Or school kids turned psycho?

There are, of course, only three options we need to consider: teenagers, someone in need of care in the mental health system, or a teenager in need of care in the mental health system.

Mufti Blames Women for Rape

Australia: Australia's most senior Muslim cleric, Sydney-based Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali, has recently jumped on the hate-mongering band wagon.

In the religious address on adultery to about 500 worshippers in Sydney last month, Sheik Hilali said: If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat?

The uncovered meat is the problem.

The sheik then said: If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred.

He said women were weapons used by Satan to control men.

It is said in the state of zina (adultery), the responsibility falls 90 per cent of the time on the woman. Why? Because she possesses the weapon of enticement (igraa).

Blogroll addition

Having been excited by Modemac's contributions to alt.conspiracy, I was pleased to discover the Bulldada Newsblog, which consists of tons of links to more of the same sort of stuff.

Funny that...

United Kingdom: Val has noticed something a little, well, interesting in the newspapers recently. What interested her was the way in which the guilty plea of a Muslim to terror charges was all over the national and international press. Her eyebrows were raised further by a note that no funding had been received for the plots, nor had any of what would have been the necessary vehicles or bomb-making equipment been acquired.

During the same week, another story of dastardly terrorists was reported. Two men were arrested after chemicals which could be used to make bombs, an NBC suit and rocket launchers were found in a house in Burnley. The chemical components recovered by police are believed to be the largest haul ever found at a house in Britain. But you won't have heard about it - the story only appeared in local newspapers in Lancashire. The two men arrested, Robert Cottage (49) and David Bolus Jackson (62), are both white, and one of them stood as a BNP candidate for Pendle Council earlier this year. They were due in court today—perhaps the papers might notice this time?

Beware of pervy demons!

United States (where else?): Crap in bed? Having trouble getting it up? Homosexual? It's probably all the fault of demons, at least according Erica Shepherd, who runs a Sexual Exorcism, Healing, Deliverance Ministry!

Your Sexual Problem May very well be Spiritual? ... Once you have been A Victim Of this type of Spiritual Sexual Abuse You require Personal Exorcism Healing Deliverance Ministry

But how could the demons have found you? The possibilities are endless, but naturally, we're only going to mention the really, really silly ones here.

I have prayed with people who have had these sex Demons unloosed upon them by witchcraft.

I have prayed with people who have had these sex Demons unloosed upon them though Astral Projection.

I have prayed with people who have had these sex Demons unloosed upon them through sleepin in a Hotel room bed and not praying over the room first.

I have prayed with people who out of contex, really believe that "Jesus" has become their husband and Is providing them with sexual gratification.

I prayed with another lady, who went to a foreign Country and was made a Spiritual bride, without Knowing it and she was plagued with a sex Demon, so badly that she almost went crazy.

And if you feel the call to help people afflicted in such a manner, you can always attend her Exorcism Healing Deliverance School.

Normal service to resume shortly

A few short items for you:

Not updating the blogroll just yet

Ireland: This morning my LJ friends' page brought the terrible news that David Stewart has died. You will find a link to his blog, Science Friction, under the heading People I've had drinks with. A stalwart of Irish science fiction fandom, he was the sort often to be found beavering away in the background at conventions, before going on to win the table quiz in the evening. My last memory of him in good health was at the 2005 World Science Fiction Convention in Glasgow, which he spent working in the press office getting writers and the media together and fending off any efforts from the tabloids to make it look like a cosplay event.

Having a veil of a time

United Kingdom: There has been much fuss in the British press of late after a man with severe hearing problems who lipreads, mentioned that the full veil worn by some Muslim women made communication difficult for him. It's been all over the net too, so here are a few select articles:

Several things that no-one has been saying—Roz Kaveney in Silence Exile and Crumpets, 7th October 2006.

Why Muslim women should thank Straw—Saira Khan in The Times, 9th October 2006.

And Jesus and Mo were rather quick to comment on the situation, too.
