United States: Hundreds of Sikh taxi drivers took part in a procession to protest against the murder of one of their colleagues in a suspected hate crime.
Amid a sea of vehicles, the drivers first congregated in three San Carlos parking lots where they rallied in support of the slain driver, pledging to put an end to what they perceive to be hate crimes. Afterward, they followed each other single file to San Jose to attend a memorial for Singh, their cabs winding like a yellow ribbon down Highway 101.
The drivers believe that the murderer saw a resemblance to Osama bin Laden in the victim's beard and turban, and that that was the motive, though police believe it was an attampted robbery. SIKHS SHOW SOLIDARITY - San Jose Mercury News, 19th September 2003.

"mistaken identity"? What group under the sun, pray tell, would it be correct to treat in this fashion?
There's some mistakes being made, all right, but they're a bit more serious than a mere identity issue.

The poor old Sikhs. I hope the police are right, and it was just a robbery, but I suspect that the community is more likely to be correct. Idiocy and racism are, alas, close cousins.
