United States: Gary Cole, a seventh grade social studies teacher in Maine, has sued the School Administrative District 1 claiming it violated his First Amendment right of free expression.
It seems the moral moronity of loony fundies have managed to bully the school system into developing a history curriculum that forbids discussion of any non-Christian civilisations or any religions other than Christianity.
He can't even teach the history of anti-Semitism (or the) history of ancient Greece, said Cole's lawyer, A.J. Greif of Bangor.
How can you explain the evolution of democracy in the Western world without talking about ancient Greece? He can't talk about all the influences of the Indian, Japanese or Chinese cultures.
Cole has been threatened with reprimands and the possibility of getting the boot for teaching outside the narrow fundie-tailored curriculum, even though the topics he wishes to teach are available to seventh graders in other districts around the state.

Not if you when to Skyway Middle School recently. I have to wonder how they deal with Bush's Iraq scuffle, placing your hands over your ears, closing your eyes and singing "la, la, la" really loudly can't be the best approach.

Allowed HTML:
a href, b, br, p, strong, em, ol, ul, li, blockquote, q, pre. If your name has accents in it, things will work better if you use the XHTML entities for those letters. The same applies if you are using a word processor to compose your comment, then copying and pasting the text—either turn off curly quotes and avoid using em-dashes, or edit your comment after pasting to get rid of them. Garbled comments usually get deleted.
