Australia: The bigoted and obnoxious George Pell, who only ended up as Sydney's Archbishop because Melbourne wanted shot of the bastard, is waxing lyrical about Gibson's vanity pic luring people back to the church.
Hollywood's latest religious movie The Passion of the Christ is being credited for creating a further interest reigniting an interest in Christianity.
Sydney's Catholic Archbishop, Cardinal George Pell says the film has started public discussion among non-church goers and reminded people of the extent of Christian sentiment and belief across society.
In his Easter message, Cardinal Pell says the movie forced people to reflect on the struggle between good and evil.
Mel Gibson's film The Passion has focused public attention of the Christian understanding of the whole Easter season more effectively than any other event for years,he said.
Many who came to the Easter ceremonies this year came with a clearer vision.
It seems that Pell has forgotten that Easter and Christmas are peak periods for guilt induced church visits and his sudden popularity will be soon over until the end of the year. Although sitting through one of his sermons will be more than enough to scare people away from the church altogether.

Just had to make a point about Passion of the Christ and Christianity in general: if "God gave his only begotten Son" as a sacrifice, etc, that means: God very much loves blood sacrifice, and He is so horrific that he had to come up with a plan to save all us poor victims from... Himself. So He created a human child whom He then executed by torture because only a horrendous human sacrifice would be enough to satisfy... Himself... so that we could be freed from eternal damnation at the hands of... Himself! Human Sacrifice to Appease Bloodthirsty God. That's the Good News?

Okay, so I'm really using this as a space to comment on a story not picked up by Pagan Prattle (though it should!) The CoE Synod has decided that the Three Wise Men" may not have really been men, or all men, so we can't call them the Three Wise Men any longer. *snicker*
On the other hand, about Dan's comment, I think he got his theology a little confused, because Christ in essence volunteered to be the sacrifice for sin. But then again, I'm not here to wax eloquent on theology. Keep up the good work!!
