Lazy Cops Blame Satan

by Red Wolf

Italy: The lovely Feòrag passed this on to me before she departed for her tour of the continent. Well, bits of it. All right, the fine purveyors of beer in Berlin.

It seems that the plods in Milan are either incredibly lazy, superstitious or both. When confronted with the bodies of two teenagers, rather than investigate, they jumped to the astounding conclusion that, as they were both members of a metal band, their deaths were the work of Satanists.

A gruesome find in a wood outside Milan has sparked fears that bored young Italians could be coming under the influence of Satanic cults.
The news has caused an outbreak of soul-searching in Catholic Italy.
Even hardened police officers were shocked by what they found outside the sleepy commuter town of Busto Arsizio.
Two teenagers' bodies were discovered in a makeshift grave, killed — police say — as part of a satanic ritual involving sex, drugs and rock and roll.

Hmm... sex, drugs and rock and roll, in my part of the world we call that a party.

The two — a 19-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy — were last seen alive six years ago, leaving a pizzeria with other members of their heavy metal rock band, called the Beasts of Satan.
Sexual violence
What happened next is still the subject of investigation.
But the magistrate leading the inquiry says they were murdered at the end of a drug-fuelled ritual which involved a level of cruelty he has never seen before.
Italian newspapers have described the murdered girl's bedroom, decorated with black candles and goats' skulls, and have quoted witness statements of sexual violence.
There are also suggestions that the double-killing might not be isolated and that more young Italians than anyone cares to think are dabbling in Satanism.
The experts are having a field day: pinpointing the ease with which young people can make contact with Satanists on the internet, describing the attractions of Satanism to impressionable people steeped in Catholic culture — and blaming the breakdown of traditional family values for the extreme alienation of some young Italians.

So little time...so little change. Italian Catholics always amaze me how backward they are in the end.

The New York Times has picked up the story: Italian Police Look to a Cult in '98 Killings of Teenagers [BugMeNot]

It seems not so unrealistic.

Danielle Demetriou of The Independent is reporting that eight members of an alleged Satanic black metal sect, "Beasts of Satan", were ordered to stand trial in an Italian court Thursday (Jan. 13, 2005) in relation to three supposed ritual killings.

The eight suspects, four of whom are members of "Beasts of Satan" from Busto Arsizio near Milan, are facing charges in relation to the murder of three companions.

The discovery of the body of Mariangela Pezzotta, who was buried in a shallow grave after being shot, in January last year led police to the gang, and to the discovery that two other members, Fabio Tollis and Chiara Marino, had been killed in 1998.

Chiara Marino, a 19-year-old girl, was reportedly killed under a full moon by a knife plunged into her heart in 1998.

Her companion, Fabio Tollis, a 16-year-old singer, was allegedly killed at the same time by a hammer blow to the head and buried alongside her in woods near Milan after he tried to stop the other band members carrying out the murder.
