A Merry Corporate Christmas

by Red Wolf

Australia: Christmas has some less appealling aspects. The garish assault on your eyes and wallets by stores; the forced interaction with family members you avoid for the rest of the year; and the insanity of stupid corporations with a rabid legal department and lack of clue who over-indulge in an fit of political correctness.

I recently got a rant from a friend who'd been charged with designing the company Christmas card and was seriously pissed off at a request from the new company owner. The e-mail is quoted with permission, provided neither my friend nor the company are mentioned.

I've just been informed by our new US based overlords, that our company christmas card is not allowed to use the word Christmas as it's not considered politcally correct. Holly and santa references are ok, but no Christ references please were american.

This looks like a job for the Flying Spaghetti Monster!

or possibly Hoff-mas

A follow up from a furious Australian CEO had the wally in the US backpedalling to suggest that perhaps both an Australian and a censored American version of the Christmas card be created.

I don't know. I think it's about time that Christians stopped pretending the festivities had anything to do with their religion and let the rest of us get on with celebrating the winter solstice by eating, drinking and being merry.

Only a few extremist Protestants seem to have noticed, and are starting to give it the Hallowe'en treatment.

NO! NO! NO!!!!!

The argument from intelligent design DEMANDS the Divinity of Dubya, so this year we should all patriotically support Putting the Dubya back into Wmas - or those Evil Satanic Al-Qaeda Gay Homosexual Zombie Cyborgs Piloting Iraqi Flying Saucers will return to impose excessive governmental regulation of the market!!!!

Ok, so It sorta worries me that I hav cthulhu and the divinity of Dubya working in the same reality space....

How exactly is one of them not like the other of them????

Cthulhu is reliable. You know where you stand with Cthulhu i.e. you will be driven insane and eaten in the end. Cthulhu makes no promises as to when He will eat you, but you know it will happen. And Cthulhu is cuter due to tentacles.

This year out here on The High Desert the politically correct have finally gotten around to petitioning the powers-that-be to change the name of The Christmas Parade to something a little more freindly to those of us who, for example, lace deer antlers to our heads in vain attempts at impersonation of the ever viril Forest Man (one day that's 'gonna score me a woman, I'm sure of it!). Jeez, it's been named such for a hundred years now and it hasn't stopped me yet! I guess they want me to be in it, rather than standing to the side (with deer antlers - a real nice little six point rake, my first deer thirty-five years ago - laced to my head) thumbing my nose and laughing my gluet off.

Pagan Prattle, I'm not sure what the point of your comment is. "Christmas" as we know it IS the product of the actions of writers and corporations, not of Christian propaganda. Until those actions were taken, Christians were widely against Christmas. Now they take the mantle of Christmas as if it belongs to them, as they've done to "pagan" religions in history. So by encouraging the use of the word "Christmas", you are in fact encouraging a pious lie.

So I'm doing some Christians a service, by noting their hypocrisy, and we know what Jesus had to say about hypocrites in the Big Book of Fairy Tales.

Evangelism, witnessing and similar activitites go by one name here—advertising, and is no different from spam for viagra, penis enlargement products and pornography. We do not take advertising. If you want to advertise your imaginary friend, please spend your own money on your own web space to do so. Any attempts to use the comments section for advertisements will be deleted, and the perpetrator barred, unless they are particularly stupid, in which case I reserve the right to pinch an idea from Teresa Nielsen Hayden and delete all the vowels.
