United States: An openly homophobic pastor has been arrested and charged with offering to engage in an act of lewdness
after he allegedly propositioned a male plain clothes police officer in a motel car park. The police officer was investigating complaints about male protitution when Lonnie Latham, senior pastor at South Tulsa Baptist Church, asked the officer to join him in his hotel room for oral sex
.
The allegation is unfortunate for Latham, given what he claims to believe:
He has also spoken out against same-sex marriage and in support of a Southern Baptist Convention directive urging its 42,000 churches to befriend gays and lesbians and try to convince them that they can become heterosexualif they accept Jesus Christ as their savior and reject their 'sinful, destructive lifestyle.
According to other news sources, Latham claims he was 'pastoring' to the police at the time.
