Loony Fundy Group Behind Political Smear Campaign

by Red Wolf

Australia: The Exclusive Brethren, a loony fundy Christian cult, has been caught distributing false and misleading documents about the Tasmanian Greens. They're also guilty of bankrolling the half-page ads claiming that the Tasmanian Greens' progressive transgender and intersex policies would ruin our families and societies.

National Greens Leader Bob Brown says an election pamphlet bearing his photograph and being distributed statewide is full of hate.

This is a very highly cashed up campaign by people whose bigotry is miserable and divisive of families. It is in strong contrast to the Greens inclusive and family-enhancing policies, Senator Brown said.

This isn't the first time these wingnuts have spread lies about the Greens, they pulled the same stunt last year in the New Zealand election campaign.

She [Jeanette Fitzsimons, co-leader of the New Zealand Greens] says it mirrors what happened in New Zealand during last year's election campaign when her party was the subject of a smear-campaign by the same religious group.

Ms Fitzsimons says she would be interested to see whether other right-wing interest groups, including political parties, colluded with the Australian Exclusive Brethren as seems to be the case here.

While the Liberals (for those not familiar with Australian politics, the Liberals under Prime Minister John Howard's leadership have no concept of the word liberal and are just another bunch of right-wing Neo-Conservative wallies) are claiming to have taken no part in the current Exclusive Brethren hate-mongering campaign, but my bullshit detector says otherwise. The Liberals, and the Labor opposition, both colluded with the loony, religious, family-unfriendly Family First Party in the last Australian Federal elections to strongarm the Greens out of seats they should have won. Sucking up to extremist Christian groups seems to be a hobby of Howard and his cronies.

Any attempts to use the comments section for advertisements will be deleted, and the perpetrator barred, unless they are particularly stupid, in which case I reserve the right to pinch an idea from Teresa Nielsen Hayden and delete all the vowels.
