Australia: It's getting so you can't open the paper without reading yet another story of Exclusive Brethren hate-mongering and stupidity. That being the case, let's see what the wingnuts have been up to since we last looked in on them.
Exclusive Brethren, Libs deny election ad deal—ABC News Online, 25th January 2007 (via tamh.newsvine.com).
The Brethren smear campaign of the Greens during the Tasmanian elections originated from the same advertising agency used by the Liberal Party. The Greens suggest that this may be more than a coincidence.
Brethren mother ignores court order—The Age, 27th January 2007 (via redwolf.newsvine.com).
I'm guessing that no one was surprised that the Exclusive Brethren mother has ignore the court order granting her ex-husband visiting rights with his children. I expect we'll be seeing more of this one if the cult doesn't spontaneously combust beforehand.
Greens urge action over alleged Brethren collusion—ABC News Online, 28th January 2007 (via redwolf.newsvine.com).
The Greens are suggesting collusion between the Liberal Party and the Exclusive Brethren and would like to see Liberal Party state director Damien Mantach hauled over the coals for his involvement.
Libs sidestep Brethren claims in Tasmania—The Advocate, 30th January 2007 (via redwolf.newsvine.com).
Unnamed sources have claimed that the Liberal Party coached the Exclusive Brethren on their campaign. The response from the Libs and the Brethren has been to put their fingers in their ears and launch into a resounding chorus of La la la, we can't hear you

Brethren leaders told flock to seek Howard win—The Age, 5th February 2007 (via Feòrag).
The Brethren has consistently claimed that any electioneering that coincides with their beliefs has been a spontaneous effort from individual members—even though said members are not premitted to vote of have opinions of their own. Funnily enough a letter, signed by the sect's world leader, Bruce Hales and each of its Australian state leaders, has surfaced that shows this stance up for a lie.
The letter offered strong support for the Howard Government, which, they said, would maintain economic prosperity, deal with theAsian threatand prevent a return to theawful yearsof the Whitlam Labor government.
The sect's former Australian leader, Ron Fawkes, described the letter, obtained by The Age, asan explosive document, acall to arms as well as to prayer.
It says to me that at the very highest level it's giving a direction for the brethren to get involved in the political sphere. Never has such a letter ever been amongst the Brethren, never.
Oops. It looks like the Brethren like to include racism and lying in their list of family values

Brethren mother flouts court order—The Age, 25th June 2007 (via redwolf.newsvine.com).
And once again, no one is surprised when the sheep from the cult breach the court order yet again. Judges tend to frown on being made fun of, the father of the children stands a very good chance of gaining full custody thanks to the antics of his ex-wife.

And Bartholomew reports on Brethren antics in the UK.
Evangelism, witnessing and similar activitites go by one name here—, and is no different from spam for viagra, penis enlargement products and pornography. We do not take advertising. If you want to advertise your imaginary friend, please spend your own money on your own web space to do so. Any attempts to use the comments section for advertisements will be deleted, and the perpetrator barred, unless they are particularly stupid, in which case I reserve the right to pinch an idea from Teresa Nielsen Hayden and delete all the vowels.

Allowed HTML:
a href, b, br, p, strong, em, ol, ul, li, blockquote, q, pre. If your name has accents in it, things will work better if you use the XHTML entities for those letters. The same applies if you are using a word processor to compose your comment, then copying and pasting the text—either turn off curly quotes and avoid using em-dashes, or edit your comment after pasting to get rid of them. Garbled comments usually get deleted.
