Crazy sign lady threatened with eviction

by Feòrag

United States: A woman who has "messages from God" plastered all over her home has been told to remove them, or reduce them to a size which does not violate city codes, or face civil and criminal action. She faces losing her home if she does not comply.

San Mateo officials have taken a cautious but steadfast approach to the situation since neighbors began complaining last year that Benavides' signs about witchcraft and government conspiracies are hurting their property values....

But with Benavides convinced that she's a prophet, the city's resolutions, fines and threats have accomplished nothing. And a woman whose life was already crumbling could eventually wind up homeless or in jail.

Benavides insists that she does not need psychiatric help, and that mental hospitals are used by the government to manipulate people. She cites Scott Peterson and Timothy McVeigh as examples of people who have been brainwashed by the government into committing murder. She is convinced that God will make sure she's alright.

Is it me, or the better publicity, or are there really more of these bampot loonies about?

I'm inclined to think there are more of them, and they can be a real pain, in just about any part of the anatomy.....

Not sure how I feel about this one.

As a rule I support anyone's right to be as bat-shit crazy as they like, provided they don't endanger anyone else's safety in the doing of it.

Thomas - in this case, the rule that's being applied is one designed to stop you, for example, accepting money from MacDonalds to put a great big advertising hoarding in your garden. Obviously it does not discriminate based on the content of the advertising!

I defaintely worry about this woman. Her house is an eye sore. but more deeply she needs the help.

She was givin another house in san mateo from a customer of hers when she worked as a waitress, a very nice man willed it to her before all this happened to her mind....she did the same thing only in a smaller amount and size, she went to sell it and had to remove it.

And then her house now started to get even worse now its just one big eye sore. At least i haven't heard her loud speaker lately. Scared my children on several occassions

Evangelism, witnessing and similar activitites go by one name here—advertising, and is no different from spam for viagra, penis enlargement products and pornography. We do not take advertising. If you want to advertise your imaginary friend, please spend your own money on your own web space to do so. Any attempts to use the comments section for advertisements will be deleted, and the perpetrator barred, unless they are particularly stupid, in which case I reserve the right to pinch an idea from Teresa Nielsen Hayden and delete all the vowels.

This is not a contacts site. If you are looking for help regarding a particular path, I suggest The Witches' Voice, which does operate a contacts service.

Allowed HTML: a href, b, br, p, strong, em, ol, ul, li, blockquote, q, pre. If your name has accents in it, things will work better if you use the XHTML entities for those letters. The same applies if you are using a word processor to compose your comment, then copying and pasting the text—either turn off curly quotes and avoid using em-dashes, or edit your comment after pasting to get rid of them.
