Brethren Running Political Smear Campaigns Again

by Red Wolf

Australia: John Howard hasn't announced the election yet and already it looks like the bampots from the Exclusive Brethren are running their smear campaigns

A leaflet had been distributed in parts of Wentworth that warned against voting Labor or Green under the banner Keep Australia Christian.

The two parties were accused of the destruction of families through supporting gay marriage and same-sex adoption, and turning a blind eye to drugs, prostitution, pornography and immigration from non-Christian countries.

Although the leaflet contains no authorisation required for political advertising, Newhouse believed the extremist material could be the work of the Exclusive Brethren.

As is typical for the Brethren, the leaflet isn't signed, but it may as well be from the closing lines:

This has been supported by a group of concerned Australian Christians, we are not a political party, we don't even vote, but we feel it is important that you know ALL the facts about the upcoming election!

That we don't even vote screams Brethren. I can only assume what they mean by facts is those they make up or distort to suit their own political agenda.

It's going to be a nasty election.

I must be slow or something, but I only just realised. If the Brethren don't vote, how come they don't get into trouble? I thought it was compulsory in Australia.

I've wondered about the voting thing myself. I probably should look it up, but I expect there's a religious conviction exception. Or, maybe they just pay the fines each time.

Yah, I think they basically suck on the fine.

Wax lyrical

Evangelism, witnessing and similar activitites go by one name here—advertising, and is no different from spam for viagra, penis enlargement products and pornography. We do not take advertising. If you want to advertise your imaginary friend, please spend your own money on your own web space to do so. Any attempts to use the comments section for advertisements will be deleted, and the perpetrator barred, unless they are particularly stupid, in which case I reserve the right to pinch an idea from Teresa Nielsen Hayden and delete all the vowels.

This is not a contacts site. If you are looking for help regarding a particular path, I suggest The Witches' Voice, which does operate a contacts service.

Allowed HTML: a href, b, br, p, strong, em, ol, ul, li, blockquote, q, pre. If your name has accents in it, things will work better if you use the XHTML entities for those letters. The same applies if you are using a word processor to compose your comment, then copying and pasting the text—either turn off curly quotes and avoid using em-dashes, or edit your comment after pasting to get rid of them. Garbled comments usually get deleted.
