Pat Robertson: February 2002 Archives

I thought he approved of killing Pagans

Pat Robertson continues to demonstrate the gentle, peaceful nature of his brand of Christianity. Around a week ago, on his 700 Club show, he described Islam as a violent religion that wants to dominate and then, if need be, destroy. To prove this, he gave a quote he claimed is from the Qu'ran:

Fight and slay the pagans wherever you find them. Seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them. Fight them. Allah will punish them.

Despite the Qu'ran's thorough numbering system, he doesn't say where this passage comes from. It might be Sura 2: 191-192:

And fight in the cause of Allah against those who fight against you, but do not transgress. Surely Allah loves not the transgressors. And kill them wherever you meet them and drive them out from where they have driven you out... But if they fight you, then fight them: such is the requital for the disbelievers.

Or maybe Robertson was confused and was really looking at Deuteronomy 7: 1-2:

When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:

Pot, kettle, very dark colour?
