Missing fannies

A Ugandan herbalist was almost killed by a group of students after a girl claimed she made her 'private parts' disappear. The students had been buying herbs to help make themselves more attractive to men.

One had to take a bath first and then wipe the private parts clean and apply the herb inside for about 15 minutes. So the girl who was the first to buy the herb, immediately followed the procedures even when the woman was still with in the hostel. But before the 15 minutes were over, the girl ran out of her room screaming that her private parts had vanished. Students grabbed the woman's clothes, tore them to pieces and beat her thoroughly. The people who passed by stopped to see what was happening. However the woman was rescued after the people threatened to call the Police.

Another traditional healer was brought in to restore the damage. Bakuli Witch Almost Lynched Dead - New Vision (via allAfrica.com), June 22nd 2002.

Indian 'witch' murdered

A man has been stoned to death in India by a mob who declared he was a witch responsible for the death and ill health of several people in Manthati village near Tandur, Hyderabad. It couldn't be sadistic kids, now

The owner of a wildlife sanctuary in Teeside isn't blaming Satan for the deaths of two wallabies, but Clifford Spedding believes his minions might be involved. The two animals were beheaded and the heads have yet to be found. This is the latest in a series of incidents in the area including an arson attack on the sanctuary, the theft of several Australian Shellducks, an arson attack on a pigeon loft which resulted in the deaths of 90 birds and an axe attack on a flock of sheep. The thought that some local youths might be behind the sick crimes is too much for Mr. Spedding who said that he thought the animals were being targetted for devil-worshipping rituals. Police investigate killing of wallabies at sanctuary - The Guardian, June 18th 2002.

Abused child forgiven

When a nine-year old girl told her mother she was having sex with their 19-year old boarder, the deeply religious woman told the pair that she forgave them and would pray for them, a court in New Zealand was told earlier today. The girl, now 16, said that her mother told her You're going to get married anyway, it's a pity you couldn't have waited. The sex continued for the next five years. The boarder's relationship with the mother cooled somewhat when she discovered pornography in his room.

This was a bigger issue in her family than the sex, she said. Her mother acted as if he had betrayed her.

The accused has denied five charges of rape and two of unlawful sexual connection with the girl. He has admitted three further charges of unlawful sexual intercourse and one of indecent assault. The rape case centres on whether or not the girl consented to sex and whether she was able to consent. Mother prayed, child-sex trial told - The Dominion (via STUFF), June 18th 2002.

Christian love

United States: A former president of the Southern Baptist Convention helped promote interfaith harmony on Monday when he described the Prophet Mohammed as a demon-posessed paedophile. The Rev. Jerry Vines made the comment to the Southern Baptist Pastors Conference in St. Louis, Missouri and was supported by both the new and the outgoing president of the Southern Baptist Convention when he claimed:

Today, people are saying all religions are the same. They would have us believe Islam is just as good as Christianity. But I'm here to tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that Islam is not as good as Christianity. Christianity was founded by the virgin-born Lord Jesus Christ. Islam was founded by Muhammad, a demon-possessed paedophile who had 12 wives and his last one was a 9-year-old girl.

He also denied that Allah was the same as the Christian and Jewish God: Allah is not Jehovah. Jehovah is not going to turn you into a terrorist that'll try to bomb people and take the lives of thousands and thousands of people. Baptist pastor's words shock Muslim leadersStar-Telegram (Dallas Fort Worth), June 12th 2002.

Stealing money was not theft

A South African woman has pleaded not guilty to charges that she stole R250 000 from her employer, claiming she was the victim of a 'witchcraft' scam:

Deonay Anderton, 40, of Sun Valley, said she had been duped by a sangoma into "borrowing" the money from her employer in order to obtain a gift of R1-million, which evil spirits wished her to have. The sangoma needed R250 000 in "clean" money to place on top of the R1-million in "blood" money, to cleanse the blood money, she told the court.

She told the court that the sangoma threatened her and her family if she told anyone about the money. 'Sangoma told me it was not theft' - Independent Online, June 6th 2002.
