Kev the media whore (again)

While conspiracy theorists are likely to make much of the next Harry Potter book being released on 21st June, self-appointed witch king Kevin Carlyon thinks that the book will be cursed because the summer solstice release date will offend 'real' witches. Harry Potter is evil, again.

The Greek Orthodox church is in a tizzy over the film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In Thrace, the Orthodox See quoted fundie sources when it claimed that the film and books would turn children into Satanists:

(The books and films) acquaint people with evil, wizardry, the occult and demonology, the announcement said. It is beyond doubt that Harry was made to resemble a young savior. Upon his birth people try to kill him, he is forever subjected to injustice but always supernaturally manages to prevail and save others. Let us reflect, who else... is held to be the unjustly treated God?

Similarly in Cyprus, Bishop Chrysostomos has complained that the highly successful film made children familiar with evil, sorcery and apocryphism. There is no tradition of children's magical fantasy in Greek-speaking areas. Church: Harry Potter film a font of evil - Kathimerini, 15th January 2003; Church Cross at Potter - Sky News, 15th January 2003.
